No, this isn't a product review demonstrating the absorbency (or lack thereof) of the Pampers diapers my twins are wearing. This is just a piece of CGM2 (consumer-generated multi-media) I created for my parenting blog, DosBebes.com. It may or may not be viral, but that's not necessarily the point -- nor is that the objective for millions upon millions of similar pieces of video content on sites like YouTube, Revver, Sharkle, and Google video. CGM is exploding because it satisfies a basic consumer need for expression. It also satisfies a latent desire we all have to exercise our creativity. These are hardly new impulses or needs -- parents, after all, have run around with cameras for years -- but what's different today is that the web has dramatically lowered the barriers of "participation." How can a proud parent resist? Aren't they cute?
