Reality TV? It's quite remarkable to witness in real time consumer-generated media spill across the web related to Hurricane Katrina. The first-hand blog posts and photos are griping, engaging, and fascinating. What's unique about this disaster relative to others is that the news media actually being proactive on the CGM front. CNN, for example, is aggressively seeking CGM from on-the-spot viewers of the Hurricane. This is a smart move, and others media outlets will undoubtedly follow their lead. My one piece of advice for CNN: get the consumer's blog address on the feedback form, which they currently don't. Why? If the person submitting the CGM offers great content, chances are that person's blog will have plenty more...every few minutes. Follow thy leads...
